An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 28" x 42" [71 x 107 cm]) (Learn More)

Dillinger: Public Enemy No. 1, the 1934 newsreel style crime documentary short ("In the most thrilling episode of his life!"; about the life of the famous criminal, who became a folk hero in the 1930s, despite being a notorious bank robber) featuring John Dillinger, and Melvin Purvis. Note that most people know that John Dillinger was captured at a movie theater when he was betrayed by a female friend. The FBI was waiting for him, and they shot him in the back and killed him. Since the public already had admiration for him, there was much outcry over the FBI's "executing" him, especially by shooting him in the back. So J. Edgar Hoover, the head of the FBI, asked for this documentary short to be made so that the public could see that Dillinger was no hero at all, and that he was a very bad person who deserved to be killed!

Important Added Info: Note that this is a very rare poster. We have only auctioned it twice, and that was in 1993 and 1996, when it auctioned for $1,380 and $2,530, and we have not auctioned it again in the past 21 years! Also note that this poster measures 28" x 42".

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had an extra horizontal fold above and below the regular top and bottom ones. It had small paper loss at the crossfolds. It had some small tears and tiny paper loss on parts of some folds and two small areas of paper loss in the yellow background to the right of Dillinger's hair and neck. It had pinholes around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
