A Group of 4 (see below) Camera Original Photographic Negatives (measure 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm]) (Learn More)

Alfred Hitchcock's To Catch a Thief, the 1955 Alfred Hitchcock romantic crime mystery thriller ("It's a web of romance and suspense that spins you from delight to danger - then spirals to an explosive climax on the fabulous Riviera!"; "Based on the novel by David Dodge"; "Screenplay by John Michael Hayes"; about a retired jewel thief living on the Riviera, and there is a string of daring jewel robberies, so naturally, he is the lead suspect, and he decides to find the true thief himself, and he is aided by a beautiful rich young woman and her mother!) starring Cary Grant, Grace Kelly, Jessie Royce Landis, John Williams, Charles Vanel, Brigitte Auber, Rene Blancard, Georgette Anys, and Jean Martinelli. Note that Cary Grant had announced his retirement from movies in 1953, but he was lured out of retirement by Hitchcock to make this one. Also note that Jessie Royce Landis, who had played Grant's mother in "North by Northwest", this time played his potential mother-in-law, and yet, she was only eight years older than Grant, who had aged very well!

Important Added Info: Note that there are four negatives in this set but one does not show Grace Kelly and is likely not from To Catch a Thief (see the update below). Note that these are negatives that were in the camera when the photographer shot the photos. We have put a scan of each negative that shows the "positive image" (in addition to a scan of the negative image). REMEMBER THAT WHAT YOU RECEIVE WILL BE PHOTOGRAPHIC NEGATIVES, NOT POSITIVE IMAGES LIKE YOU ARE SEEING. However, we will provide the winning bidder of this auction the positive image scans that are both high quality and not watermarked (on request to the winning bidder, and only the winning bidder). Each negative is in a plastic sleeve (but we removed each and scanned each, so that bidders could see just how high quality they are). They will be sent to the winner of the auction in the plastic sleeves. These often (but not always) have retouching on the emulsion side, and negative numbers written in India ink on the front. Depending on the studio some 8x10 negatives may be trimmed or have numbers or information embedded into the sides of the negative. Many smaller format camera original negatives do not have retouching on them or numbers due to their smaller size. 8x10, 5x7 and 4x5 negatives were primarily the sizes used in the 1920s through the 1940s. 2 1/4" Rollei negatives and 35mm negatives became an industry standard in the 1950s and beyond until the digital revolution in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

UPDATED 12/31/2024: Note that a knowledgeable collector pointed out that the third negative is not from To Catch a Thief and doesn't appear to show Grace Kelly. Please keep this in mind when bidding. If anyone knows who is shown and from what movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
