An Original Vintage Unfolded Political Campaign Poster (measures 15 3/4" x 21 1/4" [40 x 54 cm]) (Learn More)

Herbert Hoover was President of the United States from 1929 to 1933. The Great Depression struck during his term and his inability to end the downward economic spiral lead to his defeat in the next election, even though many scholars do not fault him for causing the Depression, because the root causes of it began during Calvin Coolidge's term. However, many in the country DID fault Hoover for the Depression while it was going on, and the large groups of homeless people lived in shanty towns that were known as "Hoovervilles". The Hoover Dam was named in his honor. He passed away in 1964 at the age of 90.
Artist: Louis Fabian Bachrach Sr.
Important Added Info: Note that this poster is from when Hoover was running for re-election in 1932, which clearly was an incredibly uphill battle given that he had presided over the country when it entered the Great Depression (and of course, he lost the election to FDR, who promised a "New Deal"). The photo was taken by Louis Fabian Bachrach Sr., who solely put "BACHRACH" in the lower right corner of the photo (Bachrach's father had been a famous photographer who photographed Abraham Lincoln, and the family studio continued over 100 years, with Louis Fabian Bachrach Jr. continuing to photograph presidents and other famous politicians). Note that this poster was glued to a canvas-like material. It could conceivably be rolled, but doing so would likely damage the poster, so we will send it in a large flat package.

Note that this item needs to be shipped in an oversized flat package. Most of these items absolutely can only be sent in flat packages, and could not possibly be rolled into a tube. Some of them might SEEM like they could be rolled in a tube, like a half-sheet, but they can't. The reason these items are in this auction is specifically because they CAN'T be rolled (because rolling any of them would damage them, even if they somehow can be rolled). So please bear in mind that this item must be sent in a LARGE flat package (the size of the package will depend on the size of the item when ready for shipping), and bear this added expense in mind before placing a bid on it. IN THE CASE OF EXTREMELY LARGE FLAT ITEMS, THE SHIPPING COST WILL BE VERY HIGH, SO PLEASE DO NOT BID WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT THAT ADDED SHIPPING AMOUNT, AND INCLUDE THAT AMOUNT IN WHAT YOU BID (so if you would pay $150, but the shipping is likely $100, then only bid $50). And those who live outside the U.S. and who do not have a U.S. address to ship to SHOULD NOT BID AT ALL ON EXTREMELY LARGE FLAT ITEMS, BECAUSE THEY COST HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO SEND OUTSIDE THE U.S.

Condition: fair. The poster has many stains around the edges with some tears and tiny paper loss. It was folded in each direction and it has scuffing scattered throughout. Obviously it could be restored, but bear all of the above in mind.
