An Original Vintage Linenbacked World War II Poster (measures 15 1/4" x 20" [39 x 51 cm]) (Learn More)

Buy United States Defense Bonds and Stamps, the 1941 U.S. World War II (WWII) War Bond poster ("1941 Industries Cooperation Series") encouraging the public to purchase defense bonds and stamps to help the war efforts. The government wanted to save money on printing, so they left a blank rectangle at the bottom of the poster, and they made contracts with various companies to print large numbers of each design of this poster with each different poster carrying an ad for a company in that bottom area!
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this war poster! As noted above, this version of the poster was contracted to a company in return for their getting to print an ad at the bottom, and this one has an ad for Sylvania Hygrade Lamps (other designs of this poster had ads for other companies).

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had water staining in the bottom left corner, extending into the title, with some small brown stains in the lower left of the image. It had some water staining in the middle right. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. The water staining described above is not very distracting (see our image), but be aware of it before bidding on this poster.
