Date Sold 12/21/2014Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Still (Learn More) Thank You, Mr. Moto, the 1937 Norman Foster Asian detective crime mystery thriller ("Based on a story by John P. Marquand"; the second entry in this series of popular movies) starring Peter Lorre (in the title role as Mr. Moto), Thomas Beck, Pauline Frederick, Jayne Regan, Sidney Blackmer, Sig Ruman (billed as "Sig Rumann"), John Carradine, Philip Ahn, Wilhelm von Brincken, and Nedda Harrigan. Note that Fox had had great success with its Chinese detective, Charlie Chan, so it seemed natural for them to start this second series featuring a Japanese detective. It did not start until 1937, perhaps because they did not have an actor suitable for the lead role, but Peter Lorre had substance abuse issues, and he was probably happy to get the work. Fox made seven movies in just three years, but then they stopped the series, likely because of the rise of anti-Japanese sentiment in the U.S., as World War II neared. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have not seen this movie, but since Lorre looks completely different than he does in the rest of the movie, we assume this is a candid (we suppose he could be in disguise in the movie). Also note that this still has two punch holes in the top border, so it could be a key book still, or someone could have just put those punch holes there. Condition: good to very good. There are creases in the top right. There are two punch holes in the top border (see above). Learn More about condition grades
