Ice Follies of 1939, the 1939 Reinhold Schunzel ice skating sports musical ("Sparking with stars, gayety, girls, music!") starring Joan Crawford, James Stewart (Jimmy Stewart), Lew Ayres, Lewis Stone, "The International Ice Follies" (with Bess Ehrhardt, Roy Shipstad, Eddie Shipstad, and Oscar Johnson), and Lionel Stander. Note that Roy Shipstad, Eddie Shipstad and Oscar Johnson were skaters who founded "The International Ice Follies" in 1936, and it became very successful, and this movie was set at the Ice Follies, but a big problem for the producers was that none of the top stars could skate at all, so they had to center the plot around non-skating scenes, which made for an unusual movie! Later on, the show became known as "Shipstad and Johnson's Ice Follies", and in 1980, they merged with "Holiday on Ice", which is owned by Disney, and they still produce many successful shows with the "...on Ice" titles to this day!
