An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 18" [36 x 46 cm]) (Learn More) Charlie Chan in London, the 1934 Eugene Forde Asian England detective mystery crime thriller ("Based on character created by Earl Der Biggers") starring Warner Oland (in the title role as Charlie Chan), Drue Leyton, Ray Milland (billed as "Raymond Milland"), Mona Barrie, Douglas Walton, Alan Mowbray, and E.E. Clive. Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! Also note that Ray Milland had been in movies for six years by this point, but had many uncredited roles, and this was one of his first better roles (he was third billed, and this was when he was still billed as "Raymond"). Important Added Info: Note that this window card has been trimmed and it now measures 14" x 18" [36 x 46 cm]. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The card had a blank top that was partially trimmed off. It had water stains in the bottom border and in parts of the other borders, with some scattered faint stains in the image. There was a 6" diagonal tear in the lower right of the card and some creases in the lower left. Someone had the card linenbacked "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. If you look at our super-sized image of the card, it is clear that it can be displayed and enjoyed just as it is, in spite of its defects. Learn More about condition grades
