An Original Vintage Folded Magic Show Broadside Poster (measures 12 3/4" x 38 3/4" [32 x 98 cm]) (Learn More) Martino the Far-Famed California Illusionist, the circa 1870s magic broadside poster ("Illusionist and champion ventriloquist of the world"; "Every feature entirely new"; "Repertoire of Illusion!"; "Martino's scenes in ventriloquism surpasses anything ever before heard."; "He will also introduce the dancing skeleton"; "Grand Family Matinee"; "150 presents will be given to the audience") promoting a magic and ventriloquism performance by Martino. We have seen a similar poster on the Internet that was said to be from 1871, and we would say that this poster is surely from several years prior to that time to several years after that time. Also note that it is surprisingly difficult to find information about this early magician/illusionist/ventriloquist, Martino, but based on the broadside, he had quite an act, including his famous "dancing skeleton". He charged 25 cents for general admission, and 50 cents for reserved seats, which seems like a lot for that time, but of course, he also gave away an amazing assortment of "presents", as noted on the poster, so maybe that drew in the crowds as much as his show did. If anyone knows more about this poster or this performer, please e-mail us and we will post it here. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: poor to fair. There is paper loss in the top and in the bottom left. There is tape on the back of all the borders and on the back of the top center, where there was a vertical tear. Please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept its defects described above or are willing to pay to have them properly restored. Please look at our super-sized image to get a good sense of the exact condition of this item. Learn More about condition grades
