An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Belgian 3 Images Style Movie Poster (measures 14 1/2" x 20") (Learn More) Novecento (released in the U.S. in 1977 as "1900"), the 1976 Bernardo Bertolucci French/German/Italian historical epic ("Europe's most important, powerful and forceful motion picture ever...!"; "A compelling, unforgettable story of human nature, human existence, of the constant struggle against the oppression of tyranny. From the cradle to the grave- victims of history and change!";"The motion picture for your century."; "A film by Bernardo Bertolucci"; "Screenplay by Franco Arcalli"; set in changing Italy) starring Robert De Niro, Gerard Depardieu, Dominique Sanda, Francesca Bertini, Laura Betti, Werner Bruhns, Stefania Casini, Sterling Hayden, Anna Henkel, Ellen Schwiers, Alida Valli, Romolo Valli, Stefania Sandrelli, Donald Sutherland, and Burt Lancaster. Note that this movie was over four hours long, so it was released in two parts in some countries, and released in cut versions in other countries! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: good. This poster was linenbacked, but it was either NOT linenbacked by a very talented restorer, OR it was linenbacked many years ago, and has received rough handling over the years, OR it had fairly significant defects that were not well restored. If it was restored, you can clearly see signs of the restoration even from a distance. This is a poster that would surely benefit from additional professional restoration. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "Pre-Restoration Defects & Quality of Restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). The poster was never folded. It had a 4" tear near the middle of the right border extending into the bottom of Depardieu's shirt and a 3" mostly vertical tear in the left edge of the bottom of Depardieu's image. There were some creases down the left side of the poster. Something happened during the linenbacking process, and the poster is rippling in the upper left border (extending into De Niro's image), and is lightly rippling throughout. I would think another restorer could fix this problem without re-backing the poster, but I am not sure. Note that the restorer who mounted the poster did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster. Learn More about condition grades
