An Original Painting (measures 26 1/2" x 26 1/2" [67 x 67 cm]) (Learn More) Deanna Durbin was a Canadian juvenile actress and singer from the 1930s to the 1940s. In 1935, when she was just 13 years old, she sang an operatic aria at a Hollywood benefit, and Universal Studios was so impressed, they signed her to a long term contract (which turned out to be a wonderful move on their part)! She was studying opera with the Spanish opera star Andres de Segurola, but she dropped that when she started movies. Some of her movies include: Mad About Music, It Started with Eve, Three Smart Girls Grow Up, One Hundred Men and a Girl, and Every Sunday. In the early 1940s, she was Universal's biggest star and in 1947 she was the highest paid female star in Hollywood. Deanna abruptly retired from acting in 1948 at the age of 26 and withdrew from public life. She passed away in 2013 at the age of 91. Artist: D. A. Stewart Important Added Info: Note that this painting was created for an RKO theater in Illinois by local artist D. A. Stewart. It would have been displayed when they were showing Deanna Durbin movies. The painting is signed by Mr. Stewart on the front, and it has a small paper glued to the back, explaining about the painting, and that too is signed by Mr. Stewart. Note that this painting, which was painted on a medium-weight board could conceivably be rolled in a tube, because it is not backed, but doing so would virtually certainly damage it, so we will ONLY send this poster in a large flat package. Please bear this in mind before bidding on this poster (incorporate the added shipping cost into the amount you bid). Note that this item needs to be shipped in an oversized flat package. Most of these items absolutely can only be sent in flat packages, and could not possibly be rolled into a tube. Some of them might SEEM like they could be rolled in a tube, like a half-sheet, but they can't. The reason these items are in this auction is specifically because they CAN'T be rolled (because rolling any of them would damage them, even if they somehow can be rolled). So please bear in mind that this item must be sent in a LARGE flat package (the size of the package will depend on the size of the item when ready for shipping), and bear this added expense in mind before placing a bid on it. IN THE CASE OF EXTREMELY LARGE FLAT ITEMS, THE SHIPPING COST WILL BE VERY HIGH, SO PLEASE DO NOT BID WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT THAT ADDED SHIPPING AMOUNT, AND INCLUDE THAT AMOUNT IN WHAT YOU BID (so if you would pay $150, but the shipping is likely $100, then only bid $50). And those who live outside the U.S. and who do not have a U.S. address to ship to SHOULD NOT BID AT ALL ON EXTREMELY LARGE FLAT ITEMS, BECAUSE THEY COST HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO SEND OUTSIDE THE U.S. Condition: good to very good. There is a pinhole in each corner with creases around the pinhole. There is paper loss in the bottom right corner and some smudges and faint stains scattered around the edges.
