eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 3x070 KENTUCKY KERNELS WC '34 art of Bert Wheeler & Robert Woolsey with pretty Mary Carlisle! Date Sold 9/18/2012Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) Kentucky Kernels, the 1934 George Stevens inheritance American South feuding families orphan adoption screwball comedy ("When the bullets start to fly, suh... You'' Just Die, Suh!"; about a pair of men who both inherit a bunch of money and become custodian to an orphan boy, and they get in the midst of a huge family feud) starring Bert Wheeler, Robert Woolsey (Wheeler & Woolsey), Mary Carlisle, George 'Spanky' McFarland, Noah Beery Sr., and Willie Best. Note that director George Stevens had gotten his start in the late 1920s, and throughout the early 1930s, he directed around 20 comedy shorts for RKO. In 1933, he was finally given the chance to direct a feature, and he was soon regularly directing feature-length comedies (this was his third), but he would really come into his own in the 1940s, and by the 1950s, he was one of the very top Hollywood directors! The poster had pinholes, creases, tears, and some areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster and some creases, smudges, scuffs, and a few pinholes scattered throughout the image. There was a 4" tear in the upper left border that extended into the cheek of the man at left. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was well backed by a talented restorer, who did not touch up many of the faint smudges and scuffs (and I agree with that decision, because to do so would have required lots of paint, which would have given the poster a "heavily restored" look, and I don't feel the smudges and scuffs are all that distracting, and they help establish that this is a genuine 75 year-old original poster!). Obviously, one would prefer to find an example of this window card that had no defects or restoration, but I do not know if another example of this card exists (or if it does, if the owner would consider parting with it!). This card has had expert restoration and displays nicely. Learn More about condition grades
