An Original Vintage Theatrical Mini Movie Window Card (WC; measures 8" x 14" [20 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) One Night of Love, the 1934 Victor Schertzinger (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) romantic opera musical ("A great star comes into her own"; from the story by by Charles Beahan & Dorothy Speare; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; about a New York singer who is disappointed after losing a radio talent contest, and she goes to Europe where she becomes a singer in a restaurant, but she is discovered by a voice teacher, and she becomes the top European opera star, and they have a romance, and after many ups and downs, they have a successful romance and she becomes a U.S. opera star) starring Grace Moore (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Tullio Carminati, Lyle Talbot, Mona Barrie, and Jane Darwell. Note that Grace Moore was a major New York opera star starting in 1928 (she was called "The Tennessee Nightingale") who was hired by MGM in 1930 to star in a biography of Jenny Lind called "A Lady's Morals". But it did not do well at the box office, and she made one other movie for MGM, and then she returned to the opera. But in 1934, Columbia hired her to make this movie, and this was much better received, and she appeared in five more Columbia movies. Grace Moore was killed in a plane crash in 1947, and a biography of her life was made in 1953, "So This is Love", with Kathryn Grayson playing Grace Moore NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned two examples of this mini window card, and only one in the last 13 years! Note that this is one of a wonderful collection of 36 ultra rare mini window cards we were consigned, which we are currently auctioning in 36 separate auctions! If you don't know already, mini window cards (which were made by the studios to serve as "mini posters" that could be displayed in small areas where larger posters could not) are similar in size to lobby cards, except that they measure 8" x 14" rather than 11" x 14", and they have a vertical orientation, with a blank top where theaters could put their play dates like with 14x22 window cards. But they are many, many times more rare than title lobby cards, or even regular window cards! Likely, this is because most theaters did not order these, but there could be another reason. We are not overstating this massive rarity difference! For example, we have auctioned around 20,000 14x22 window cards, and around 35,000 title lobby cards, but fewer than FIVE HUNDRED of these mini window cards! Every other hobby puts a massive premium on extreme rarity, and it seems that it will be just a matter of time before our hobby does the same with mini window cards! Perhaps it is their extreme rarity that causes many collectors to be unaware of them, but that is sure to change as well! This is a rare opportunity to purchase any of 36 mini window cards at one time! Condition: very good. The card has water staining on the back of the upper right, and a lesser amount scattered around the edges (see our image of the back). Fortunately, the water staining is faint, and due to the thickness of the card, it really barely shows to the front at all, and the card displays really well as it is.
