An Original Vintage Tri-Folded Three-Sheet Stage Play Poster (3sh; measures 41" x 81" [104 x 206 cm]) (Learn More)

Bringing Up Father was an ultra popular King Features comic strip which was made into a series of traveling musical stage plays in the 1910s and 1920s (as well as films from the 1910s to the 1950s). Gus Hill produced several of these shows including "Bringing Up Father", "Bringing Up Father in Florida", "Bringing Up Father on Broadway", "Bringing Up Father in Ireland", "Bringing Up Father Abroad", and several more. If anyone knows more about these stage plays, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that we can't say for certain, but we think this poster is likely for a stage play based on this very popular comic strip. We don't know exactly when the production was from, but we are thinking likely the early 1920s. The poster has great cartoon art at the top, but we think it is likely not George McManus art, but rather by some artist drawing in his style. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note also that this three-sheet was printed in 3 sections designed to overlap. Also note this three-sheet poster was tri-folded only (which means there is one less vertical machine fold than usual). This means the poster has a significantly lesser number of folds than with three-sheets folded in the "regular" way, which is nice! Tri-folded three-sheets need to be sent in an oversized flat package, which measures roughly 13" x 30", so they cost more to send than regularly folded three-sheets, especially if they are sent to non-U.S. addresses.

Condition: good. The poster has several defects scattered along the borders and foldlines/crossfolds, and there are one or more areas of significant foldline and/or crossfold separation. There is discoloration mostly in the lower panel due to exposure to moisture. The panels have become somewhat fragile due to the tears around the edges. The poster's condition could be improved with linenbacking and restoration, but bear in mind the poster's condition and the cost of restoration before bidding on it.
