An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Russian Movie Poster (measures 18" x 24 1/4" [46 x 62 cm]) (Learn More) Admiral Nakhimov, the 1947 (released in the U.S. in 1949) Vsevolod Pudovkin Russian biographical navy war biographical melodrama (a biography of Admiral Pavel Nakhimov, one of the most acclaimed admirals in Russian history, who fought against the Turkish fleet during the Crimean War of 1853) starring Aleksei Dikij (in the title role as Admiral Nakhimov), Yevgeni Samojlov, Vladimir Vladislavsky, Vsevolod Pudovkin, and Nikoali Chaplygun If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this poster, which is a "country of origin" poster for this Russian movie! Note that this looks like it could be an incomplete poster (because the artwork runs off the left and right, and there is no title or credits on the poster). But we think it is complete, because it is the exact same size as other Russian export posters of this time, and because they also have a small white bottom border with no borders on the other three sides. They were sent blank to other countries so that the specific country that the poster was used in could overprint or write in titles in their own language. Also note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Note that this poster is one of a collection of 36 similar posters that we were consigned (and are currently auctioning in 36 separate auctions). They include Russian, Uzbek, Ukranian, and Latvian posters, and some of them are movie posters, and others are circus posters, with a few other kinds of posters. All of these posters are incredibly rare, and on the vast majority of them, we have never auctioned them before, and it may be many years before we auction any of them again. This is a rare opportunity to purchase one or more of these posters, all of which have very striking images! Condition: good to very good.
