An Unfolded French Art Exhibition Poster (measures 23 1/2" x 36 3/4" [60 x 93 cm]) (Learn More)

Franzosische Kunstausstellung zu Krefeld (literally translates to "French Art Exhibition at Krefeld"), the 1907 French poster (in the German language) promoting an exhibition of artwork to take place in Krefeld , Germany from May 28th to July 21st. This poster features Theophile Alexandre Steinlen charcoal-style art (which is enigmatic and a little spooky) of a woman holding a red flower in her hand. Born on November 10th, 1859 in Lausanne, Switzerland, Steinlen studied design at the University of Lausanne, before moving to Paris. Amidst the artistic avant-garde in Montmarte, it was at the notorious Le Chat Noir club, that Steinlen met artists like Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Louis Anquetin, Adolphe Willette, and Felix Vallotton. He produced advertisements for the Le Chat Noir, and found artistic recognition through frequent exhibitions at the Salon des Independants. Today, his works are in the collections of the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, the Musee d'Orsay in Paris, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
