DeMille silent romantic love triangle all-star comedy ("To Anatol every pretty face was an invitation ---- and he never sent regrets!"; "Cecil B. DeMille's Greatest Production"; "Suggested by Arthur Schnitzler's play and the paraphrase thereof by Granville Barker"; "With the most imposing cast ever assembled in on photoplay"; based on a then-famous play by Arthur Schnitzler, which dealt with a philandering husband who wants any woman other than his wife, and of course, when he finally realizes that he belongs with his wife, she no longer wants him; director/producer Cecil B. DeMille used his clout to cast all of the top Paramount stars of the day in the lead roles!) starring Wallace Reid (in the title role as Anatol Spencer), Gloria Swanson, Elliott Dexter, Bebe Daniels (as Satan Synne, the wickedest woman in New York!), Monte Blue, Wanda Hawley, Theodore Roberts, Agnes Ayres, Theodore Kosloff, Polly Moran, Raymond Hatton, and Julia Faye. Note that Wallace Reid was a major star of the early 1910s, who fell in love with Dorothy Davenport, who was a young starlet. He married her, and they made many movies together in the middle 1910s, marrying in 1913. In 1917, Davenport had their son, and she made few movies after the birth of her son, but he remained a top star. In 1919, Wallace Reid was making a movie "The Valley of the Giants", and he was injured, and took morphine to enable him to finish filming. He became a major drug addict, and made 24 movies over the next 3 years, but died in 1923 at the age of 31, and it is unclear exactly how large a part drugs and alcohol played in his death, but certainly this was one of the first great Hollywood drug scandals. The following year, Davenport produced "Human Wreckage", an expose of Hollywood and drugs, billed as "Mrs. Wallace Reid", and she made a total of six movies after "Human Wreckage", always billed the same way. In 1934, she retired and she died in 1977 at the age of 82. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. There is faint water staining and very light rippling in the upper left of the image. The card was folded down the center and there is wear on parts of that fold, and clear tape on the back of the fold.
