An Original Vintage Linenbacked French World War I (WWI) Poster (measures 31 3/4" x 37 1/4") (Learn More)

25 Juin 1916 Journee Serbe (literally translates to "June 25, 1916 Serbian Day"), the 1916 French military World War I (WWI) charity poster charity poster promoting the June 25th event which commemorated the Anniversary of the 1915 Battle of Kosovo, and featuring Theophile-Alexandre Steinlen art of the Great Retreat (showing the remnants of the Serbian army and many refugees fleeing from their homeland). Note that over 200,000 thousand Serbs died of cold and hunger during the Great Retreat in the winter of 1915-1916, and Serbian Day was organized in Paris for the benefit of the Serbian Relief Fund.
Artist: Theophile-Alexandre Steinlen

Condition: very good. The poster had creases and some tiny tears in the top 6" of the vertical foldline and minor wear on the other folds. There were some pinholes, tiny tears, and tiny areas of paper loss in the borders. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was backed onto a very thin linen backing with 1" of excess linen on all four sides. Note that at some point after linenbacking, the poster was roughly handled and there are now minor creases in all the borders of the excess linen (but solely in the excess linen, and NOT in the poster itself).
