Cooper & Ernest B. Schoedsack Africa New York City giant ape fantasy romantic love triangle adventure horror thriller ("'The most awesome thriller of all time' the one and only"; "Not beast.. Not human.... Not devil.. But all three magnified! Raging.. Roaring.. Crushing.. Killing.."; "Strangest story ever conceived by man!"; "Out-leaping the maddest imaginings! Thrilling! Startling!"; "From an idea conceived by Edgar Wallace & Merian C. Cooper"; based on the story by Edgar Wallace, with incredible special effects by Willis O'Brien) starring Fay Wray, Robert Armstrong (as Carl Denham), Bruce Cabot, Frank Reicher, and Sam Hardy NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that these Indian lobby cards measure 10" x 12" [25 x 30 cm], but have not been trimmed. How do we know they are from India? Four of the five have stamps on the back from "Seven Seas Pictures", from Bombay, India, so it seems a certainty that they are from an Indian release. One of them has "Re-Released by RKO Pictures" at the bottom and three of them have a snipe that says this (on the last one, the snipe is missing). So they are certainly not from 1933, and our best guess is that they are from the 1940s. WE HAVE NEVER SEEN ANY LOBBY CARDS LIKE THIS FROM ANY COUNTRY AND THEY CERTAINLY HAVE GREAT IMAGES! If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
UPDATED 06/30/2019: Note that there was an error in the date of the Auction Title. As was clearly mentioned in the Important Added Info section of the auction, we believe these LCs are from a 1940s re-release. Condition: poor. The cards have many pinholes and areas of paper loss in the corners and are heavily stained and have a LOT of other defects (see our images). Obviously these can be "rescued" by a talented restorer, but please bear in mind their very significant defects before bidding. Learn More about condition grades
