Steamboat Bill Jr. (released in some English-speaking countries as "Steamboat Bill Junior"), the classic 1928 Charles Reisner & Buster Keaton romantic father-son sailing ship adventure comedy (about a long lost son who returns to his tough, gruff sailor father, and he is initially a great disappointment to him) starring Buster Keaton (in the title role as William Canfield Jr.), Ernest Torrence, Tom McGuire, Tom Lewis, and Marion Byron. Note that this is the movie that includes the classic sequence of Buster Keaton in a hurricane, where the front of a house frame falls on top of him, and the window from the second floor saves him from death!

Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this pressbook! Also note that at this time, United Artists prepared unusual pressbooks that were different from those of the other studios. Sometimes they measured 13 1/2" x 22", and sometimes they measured 9 3/4" x 12 1/2". The larger size was folded in half, so they were not that different when sent to theaters. The larger ones had separate printed brown envelopes, with a return address from United Artists, and an image from the movie. The smaller ones had the envelope as part of the pressbook and the "cover" was the part with the return address and the image. Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners received pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut!

Condition: very good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut. The outer cover (see above), which has the mailing area on it, has many stains and a piece of tape on it with surface paper loss in the bottom left corner. The reverse of that outer cover has poster images on it and there is staining in the left blank border of that page, but not on the posters. The rest of the pressbook is in really nice condition, including the herald. Since most of the stains on the outer cover are in blank areas, they are really not a big defect. See our many images to get a good sense of the condition of this pressbook.
