And the master of a hundred screen triumphs..."; "Set you afire with romance and a-tingle with thrills.."; "The glamorous, titian-haired star of 'Gay Divorcee' and 'Roberta' joins hands with the master of all screen sleuths in a sparkling, mystery drama breathless with thrills ..."; "From the Novel by Arthur Somers Roche"; it has a lot of similarities to MGM's "The Thin Man", which also starred Powell; here he is an attorney who solves crimes, and he has a high society beautiful girlfriend who wants him to marry her) starring William Powell, Ginger Rogers, Paul Kelly, Gene Lockhart, Ralph Morgan, Leslie Fenton, J. Farrell MacDonald, and Vivien Oakland NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this 1935 movie was given a very quick re-release in 1939, and RKO created an entirely different lobby set for that re-release. The scene cards have different layout and border design, and the title cards have different images, and they have a different copyright date in the text block in the bottom left corner. Cards from both sets are quite rare, and the title cards from both sets are even more rare! Offered here is a scene card from the 1935 first release! Note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Also note that this lobby card has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the lobby card was backed onto a very light paper backing (acid-free), that keeps the "feel" of the lobby card similar to that of the original lobby card. Some restorers prefer to paperback lobby cards on to a heavy backing, while others prefer to use a very lightweight backing. The advantage of a lightweight backing is that the card still "feels" like a regular lobby card, but a heavier backing makes restoration easier to do and less noticeable. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. Prior to paperbacking, the card had pinholes and some smudges around the edges, with a few smudges scattered in the image. Overall, the lobby card was in very good condition prior to paperbacking. The card was well backed, but after it was backed, it was roughly handled, and it acquired a diagonal crease in the top right corner that slightly enters the image background (see our image).
