Artist: Roger Soubie
Important Added Info: Note that this poster, with wonderful colorful Roger Soubie art over a green background, is justifiably sought after by collectors. The last two examples of this poster we auctioned sold for $1,200 and $1,356! There is a second poster for this 1955 French re-release that has completely different Roger Soubie art over a red background, and we are separately auctioning that poster (and we have never auctioned it before).

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The poster had paper loss at most of the crossfolds, with some small tears and tiny areas of paper loss in the folds in the top three-quarters of the poster. The bottom one-quarter of the poster (where the title and credits area) has much staining scattered throughout, more so on the folds. The poster has stains and some paper loss around the edges, mostly in the borders. It is difficult to know if some of these defects were acquired after the poster was backed. Assuming they were all present to begin with, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. There are portions in the right half of the top horizontal fold that are slightly "lifting" from the linen. Certainly, a restorer could perform slight restoration to the poster as is, and it could be displayed and enjoyed in spite of its defects, but I would recommend to the new owner to have it removed from the old linen and re-back it, because most of the defects are not in the image area, and after proper restoration and re-backing, the poster will display wonderfully, and most of the restoration will be in the borders or bottom text areas.
