An Original Vintage Photographic Transparency (measures 16" x 20" [41 x 51 cm]) (Learn More) Paul Newman was one of the greatest movie stars of all time. He acted from the 1950s to 2006 in many great movies including: The Sting, Cool Hand Luke (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Hustler (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Hud (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), The Color Of Money (winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Nobody's Fool (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Verdict (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Cat On A Hot Tin Roof (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), and The Road To Perdition (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film) AND Joanne Woodward was born in Thomasville, Georgia in 1930. She won beauty pageants as a teen, and then went to college and majored in drama, and then moved to New York where she got some parts on TV and Broadway. She was an understudy in the Broadway version of Picnic, and Paul Newman was also an understudy, and although he was married with children, a romance began. Although he had started in movies a year before she did, her career took off before his, with her winning the Best Actress Academy Award for The Three Faces of Eve in 1957. The following year Newman divorced his wife and married Woodward, and the next year she had the first of their three children together. She continued to work steadily throughout the years, in movies, on stage, and on TV, sometimes with her husband. Two of her most memorable performances were in Rachel, Rachel in 1968, and in The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds in 1972 (where her real-life daughter Nell Potts co-starred with her) and in both she was directed by her husband. Woodward and Newman lived in Westport, Connecticut for many years, and lived very private lives, and of course did wonderful charitable works. Somehow Woodward managed to have a show business career, a stable marriage and family life and be socially conscious and charitable, all at the same time! It is something few other celebrities have ever managed to achieve. Important Added Info: Note that this is part of a remarkable find of 33 16" x 20" color transparencies from the 1960s (which we are auctioning in 33 separate auctions)! Prior to being consigned these 33, we had never auctioned even one transparency that was over 8" x 10" in size, and in fact, we did not even know that any studios made them larger. Each of the 33 is of a Hollywood star of the 1960s (a few of them we could not immediately identify, but we imagine someone viewing them will quickly let us know who those stars are). These are surely studio produced, as they are very high quality, and can certainly be used to make poster size blow-ups of the images. Unfortunately, we do not have a scanner large enough to scan these, so we took a picture of them with a light source behind them, but that only gives you a good idea of what the image looks like, and does NOT show you how incredibly high quality each transparency is! This is a very special auction of 366 extremely rare negatives and transparencies of various sizes, and also lots of sets of 35mm slides. EVERY single item in this auction is either "studio issued" (meaning it was created by the studio and sent to theaters and movie outlets), OR it is a "camera original" (meaning it was the actual negative that was in the camera when the photographer took the picture). Every auction clearly identifies which they are, and there are no items being auctioned that are not either "studio issue" or "camera originals". We have divided them by type and size. Also note that this auction is for one or more transparencies, and every one of the auctions of transparencies we are currently running have been scanned expertly. This auction contains the scan(s) of the transparencies in this auction, and, except in the case of very few larger sets of transparencies, we scanned each one individually (see above for what we did on this specific auction), and we have added an "eMoviePoster.com" watermark over it. The winner of this auction and ONLY the winner of this auction will, upon request, be sent the UNWATERMARKED scan(s) of the transparencies in this auction, which will both save them the time and expense of scanning them themselves, and also allow them to make positive prints of the items they purchased, if they desire. However, if it indicates above that we did not scan all the transparencies in this auction (which is only true of a very few transparencies), then of course we can only send you the photos we took of the ones we did not scan. Condition: very good. There is loss in the top left corner and bottom center, but only the solid black edges are affected, and not the image (see our image). Otherwise, the transparency is in excellent condition and will be sent to the winning bidder in a protective plastic bag! Learn More about condition grades
