An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Movie Window Card (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More)

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Hound of the Baskervilles, the 1939 Sidney Lanfield crime detective mystery thriller (based on the novel by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle) starring Richard Greene, Basil Rathbone (as Sherlock Holmes), Wendy Barrie, Nigel Bruce (as Dr. Watson), Lionel Atwill, John Carradine, Barlowe Borland, Beryl Mercer, Morton Lowry, Ralph Forbes, and Eily Malyon. Note that this was the very first of the Basil Rathbone Sherlock Holmes movies, produced by 20th Century-Fox. It was followed by a same year sequel, "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes", also from 20th Century-Fox. Fox did not make anymore of these, but in 1942, Universal bought the rights to the character and released "Sherlock Holmes and the Voice of Terror" (which brought Holmes out of the Victorian age and into the present, which greatly reduced production costs), and they quickly turned out a number of sequels in what proved to be an extremely popular series.

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this first release window card, and that was 21 years ago, when it sold for $1,725!

Condition: very good. The card has a tiny hole in the bottom of the "D" of "HOUND" and one in the background below it. It has a tiny hole in the middle of the right blank border and one in the bottom right at the bottom of the "A" of "BORLAND". The left of the top blank border was creased, affecting the very top of the "LYR" of "LYRIC". Some amateur cartoonist drew some images on the back of the left 3" of the card, but because the card stock is thick, it does not affect the front at all. Other than the above basically minor defects, the card is in nice condition, and has never had any restoration. It will display really well on the new owner's wall just as it is, or certainly, restoration can be performed to the above minor defects. Either way, the new owner will have a really rare and cool window card to display on their wall!
