An Unfolded Two-Sided Cuban Special Poster (measures 14 1/2" x 19 1/2" [37 x 50 cm]) (Learn More) Sabra Y Chatila (literally translates to "Sabra and Shatila"), the 1983 Cuban OSPAAAL poster featuring Rafael Enriquez art of victims of the Sabra and Shatila massacre on the front, as well as graphic photos and information in multiple languages on the back. The Sabra and Shatila massacre was the killing of between 762 and 3,500 civilians, mostly Palestinians and Lebanese Shiites, by a militia close to the Kataeb Party (also called Phalange, a predominantly Christian Lebanese right-wing party) in the Sabra neighborhood and the adjacent Shatila refugee camp in Beirut, Lebanon in 1982. OSPAAAL (The Organization of Solidarity with the People of Asia, Africa and Latin America) is a Cuban political movement with the stated purpose of promoting the causes of socialism and communism in the Third World, fighting globalization, imperialism, neoliberalism and defending human rights. OSPAAAL was founded in Havana in January 1966, after the Tricontinental Conference, a meeting of leftist delegates from several nations. Many of the posters created by OSPAAAL featured multiple languages so they could be used for international audiences, and they often came in copies of OSPAAAL's Tricontinental magazine. The U.S. embargo of Cuba and the fall of the Soviet Union eventually caused considerable difficulty in poster production, and it wasn't until the 2000s that production was able to increase again. Artist: Rafael Enriquez Important Added Info: Note that this poster is double-sided, but not in the regular way. There is a different image on each side of the poster. We have provided an image of each side, and please realize that the winner of this auction will receive ONE poster! Condition: very good to fine. The poster is in nice condition!
