Note that this poster features art of a smiling woman riding a horse. Munich (the Bavarian capital) used to be a carnival stronghold from the turn of the 19th to the 20th century until well into the 1930s, and it is in fact alive and kicking today. In 1914 alone, there were 533 masked balls and 145 black and white balls. This phenomenon of decadent hustle and bustle was created in particular by the artists of the Schwabinger Boheme, at first in the form of wild studio festivals, but increasingly also by artists' balls. The Munich racing club was founded in 1865 and since 1897, the site in Riem has been used as a racetrack. The association is non-profit and has the mandate to carry out horse tests to maintain and improve thoroughbred breeding. The Munich racing club can look back on more than 145 years of history, making it the oldest sports facility in Munich. The year 1936 was unforgettable for many race fans, because Nereide beat France's mare Corrida in a flawless race. Nereide was an undefeated Thoroughbred race mare that won the 1936 German Derby (in track record time) and the 1936 German Oaks. Artist: R.P. Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had very minor fold and border wear. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. Unfortunately, after it was backed, it acquired small tears in the cheek, hair, and background of the girl's face at upper left (see our image). Any talented restorer could repair those tears and touch it up where it would not stand out, but bear this defect in mind before bidding on this poster. Learn More about condition grades
