Date Sold 12/22/2024![]() Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original 1954 (from the first release of this movie in Japan) Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Japanese Two-Panel "STB" or "Tatekan" Movie Poster (2p; measures 20" x 57" [51 x 145 cm]) (Learn More) The Asphalt Jungle, the classic 1950 John Huston (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) crime film noir ("MGM presents the story of the city under the city."; "From a novel by W.R. Burnett"; about a "perfect robbery" with a team of top professionals, but of course, everything unravels, partially through double-crosses; perhaps the best movie of its kind!) starring Sterling Hayden, Louis Calhern, Jean Hagen, James Whitmore, Sam Jaffe (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), John McIntire, Marilyn Monroe, Marc Lawrence, Barry Kelley, Anthony Caruso, Teresa Celli, Brad Dexter, Don Haggerty, and Daniel Clarke NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this 1954 first release Japanese STB (Tatekan) poster, and we have only auctioned one other Japanese movie paper item from this movie, which was a B2 poster, and that one sold for $1,051! Both posters have the alternate title "While The City Sleeps". That is especially odd, because the Japanese language title translates to The Asphalt Jungle. We suspect it was just a mistake on the part of the poster designer. There is a movie "While the City Sleeps" that is also film noir, but that did not come out until 1956. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Finally note that this Japanese two-panel was printed in 2 sections designed to overlap. Condition: good to very good. The poster has an 11" patch of slight discoloration in the lower section only (it extends from the right edge through the top inset image, and a small portion of the lower right inset image) and there is a small amount of it at lower right. That section has some general edge wear and a few tiny tears in portions of the edges. The top section is in nice condition, and after linenbacking (at which time the slight discoloration can be removed chemically) the ultra rare poster will look great!
