An Original Vintage Photographic Transparency (measures 16" x 20" [41 x 51 cm]) (Learn More) Dick Van Dyke was born in tiny West Plains, Missouri in 1925 (his parents were just passing through). West Plains is also where Bruce Hershenson has lived the past 26 years! He started as a stand-up comic, and he briefly had a popular act where he would do silly lip-syching to popular songs (with wacky props). When he found success, he passed that act on to his younger less successful brother Jerry, who stuck with those routines for decades. He won a Tony Award for his stage role in Bye, Bye Birdie in 1960, and was chosen the next year to star in The Dick Van Dyke show, surely one of the best TV series of all time. While the show was on the air, he found time to recreate his part from Bye, Bye Birdie in the movie version of that part, and to co-star in What a Way to Go, The Art of Love, and in Mary Poppins, where he fully held his own opposite Julie Andrews. It seemed there was nothing this superbly talented actor could not do, but he was a major alcoholic, and that illness and his subsequent quitting drinking would greatly drag on his output for many years. He 'retired' many times, but always returned to either movies or TV. In 1993 this ultra-likeable actor returned to TV as Dr. Mark Sloan in Diagnosis Murder, which was basically Matlock but in the world of medicine. He is still making a few movie and TV appearances, and some great YouTube videos. As of 2022, he is still alive at the age of 95! Important Added Info: Note that this is part of a remarkable find of 33 16" x 20" color transparencies from the 1960s (which we are auctioning in 33 separate auctions)! Prior to being consigned these 33, we had never auctioned even one transparency that was over 8" x 10" in size, and in fact, we did not even know that any studios made them larger. Each of the 33 is of a Hollywood star of the 1960s (a few of them we could not immediately identify, but we imagine someone viewing them will quickly let us know who those stars are). These are surely studio produced, as they are very high quality, and can certainly be used to make poster size blow-ups of the images. Unfortunately, we do not have a scanner large enough to scan these, so we took a picture of them with a light source behind them, but that only gives you a good idea of what the image looks like, and does NOT show you how incredibly high quality each transparency is! This is a very special auction of 366 extremely rare negatives and transparencies of various sizes, and also lots of sets of 35mm slides. EVERY single item in this auction is either "studio issued" (meaning it was created by the studio and sent to theaters and movie outlets), OR it is a "camera original" (meaning it was the actual negative that was in the camera when the photographer took the picture). Every auction clearly identifies which they are, and there are no items being auctioned that are not either "studio issue" or "camera originals". We have divided them by type and size. Also note that this auction is for one or more transparencies, and every one of the auctions of transparencies we are currently running have been scanned expertly. This auction contains the scan(s) of the transparencies in this auction, and, except in the case of very few larger sets of transparencies, we scanned each one individually (see above for what we did on this specific auction), and we have added an "eMoviePoster.com" watermark over it. The winner of this auction and ONLY the winner of this auction will, upon request, be sent the UNWATERMARKED scan(s) of the transparencies in this auction, which will both save them the time and expense of scanning them themselves, and also allow them to make positive prints of the items they purchased, if they desire. However, if it indicates above that we did not scan all the transparencies in this auction (which is only true of a very few transparencies), then of course we can only send you the photos we took of the ones we did not scan. Condition: very good to fine. The transparency is in excellent condition and will be sent to the winning bidder in a protective plastic bag! Learn More about condition grades
