News From Home, the 1977 Chantal Akerman French/Belgian/German New York City experimental documentary featuring Chantal Akerman. Ms Ackerman left her home in Brussels for New York City when she was 20 years old, and lived there for 3 years making some experimental films, and then she returned to Brussels and made her masterpiece, Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles in 1975 (that movie was 3 hours and 22 minutes, in "real time" and was hailed by some as a feminist masterpiece, but others were not as impressed, until 2022, when Sight and Sound magazine, in its poll of top critics held every 10 years, announced it had been picked as the "greatest movie ever made", over Vertigo, Citizen Kane, and all the rest!). After making Jeanne Dielman Ackerman returned to New York City and made this movie. It shows the New York City she explored before she became famous, and it is silent, with an added soundtrack of street noises, and Ms Ackerman narrates over the various New York views, reading letters her mother in Belgium wrote to her when she first lived in New York. Because her movies are all "experimental" avante garde movies, they all received extremely limited releases when they were first made, and posters from any of them (from any country) are mostly extremely rare.
