An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Herald (measures 5 3/4" x 12") (Learn More)

The Unknown Purple, the 1923 Roland West silent romantic love triangle science fiction (sci-fi) fantasy mystery thriller ("From the sensational stage success by Roland West and Carlyle Moore"; a wild story of an inventor who converts ultra violet light into crystals, and when he holds the crystal, he becomes invisible, but other people see a purplish glow; there is a murder for which he is framed, and much other wild goings on!) starring Henry B. Walthall, Alice Lake, Stuart Holmes, Helen Ferguson, and Frankie Lee. Note that when the movie was first released, the invisible scenes were handled by having actual purple over the figure of the scientist, so that the audience only saw a purple area in the black and white film (what seems really odd is that the movie is based on a stage play, and it is hard to imagine how they made the special effects work on stage!). If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
