German Federal Railway: Black Forest, the 1958 German railway train railroad travel poster ("By rail through the Black Forest") encouraging people to use the German Federal Railway when traveling though the Black Forest area. Note that this poster features art of a train traveling through the forest. The Deutsche Bundesbahn (German Federal Railway or DB) was formed as the state railway of the newly established Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany) in 1949 as a successor of the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft. The DB remained the state railway of West Germany until after German reunification, when it was merged with the former East German Deutsche Reichsbahn to form Deutsche Bahn AG in 1994
