An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More)

Alfred Hitchcock's Spellbound, the 1945 Alfred Hitchcock (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) amnesia romantic psychological suspense thriller ("This is love!"; "Complete... Reckless... Violent!"; "Forever ...Irresistibly Spellbound!"; "Irresistible their love! Inescapable their fears!"; "The Maddest Love that ever possessed a woman"; "These two together to hold you"; "Screenplay by Ben Hecht"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; a strange story of an amnesiac in a hospital who is discovered to be posing as a doctor, but when the doctor is found dead, a female psychiatrist, who has fallen in love with him, tries to find out who he really is and who really killed the doctor; the surreal dream sequences in this movie were designed by Salvador Dali!) starring Ingrid Bergman (billed as "Ingrid Bergman's First Picture since winning the Academy Award"; as a psychiatrist!), Gregory Peck, Michael Chekhov (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), Leo G. Carroll, Donald Curtis, Rhonda Fleming (in her first real role, as a nymphomaniac!), Norman Lloyd, John Emery, Regis Toomey, Addison Richards, and Art Baker. Note that Rhonda Fleming was just 22 and had not had any real parts before being cast in this movie. But when she learned she was a "nymphomaniac", she said "I didn't even know what a nymphomaniac was. My mother and I had to look it up in the dictionary."!

Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned two examples of this first release half-sheet, and the last one was 14 years ago, whe it sold for $1,525! That example has now been reconsigned to us, so this is still only one of two examples of this poster we have ever auctioned!

Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards.

Note that because this poster was paperbacked onto a thicker paper backing, it CAN'T be sent rolled (someone could conceivably roll it or try to do so, but we know it would definitely lessen its condition, so we will only send it in a very large flat package, unless the buyer insists, and then they would be responsible for any damage).

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good to fine. The poster was never folded. There was a faint smudge in the top of Peck's shoulder. It had some faint creases in the top left of the image, in the background to the left of Peck's shoulder, and in his shoulder, ear, and the left side of his hair. There were a few faint similar creases in the middle right of the poster in the area where the two stars' hair touch, and in the background to the right of that. Other than the above described defects, the poster was in really nice condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was well backed. Paperbacking further minimized the above faint creases, and they are really not noticeable from any reasonable viewing distance!
