The novel has influenced popular culture for at least 100 years, and has inspired numerous films, television programs, video games, advertising posters, and derivative works. The monster has been portrayed by actors Boris Karloff, Glenn Strange, Lon Chaney Jr., Christopher Lee, Robert De Niro, and many others Important Added Info: Note that this book was published simultaneously by Gibbings & Company in London and J.P. Lippincott in Philadelphia in 1897. This particular copy was published by J. Miller and Sons, Printers, Edinburgh, as seen on the page facing the introduction. Someone wrote "1st illustrated edition" on the first interior blank page, and there is a bookplate on the inside front cover indicating the book was from the library of William Arnold Churchill.
