A Linenbacked 1983 Autographed Commercial Poster (made to be sold directly to the public; measures 17 1/4" x 26" [44 x 66 cm]) (Learn More)

Richard Avedon was a fashion and portrait photographer from the 1940s to the 2000s. He has won multiple awards and the New York Times said "his fashion and portrait photographs helped define America's image of style, beauty and culture for the last half-century". Avedon passed away in 2004 at the age of 81.
Artist: Richard Avedon
Important Added Info: Note that this commercial poster has been personally autographed (signed) by Richard Avedon! Also note that in 1958, Richard Avedon had a photo session with Marilyn Monroe where she dressed up as legendary movie stars (Clara Bow, Jean Harlow, Lillian Russell, Theda Bara, and Marlene Dietrich), and they were published in Life Magazine. 25 years later, Avedon created a series of 4 prints (Dietrich was not one of them, perhaps because she objected), and a number of them were sold at that time signed by Avedon. Our consignor had a friend who worked at the company that made these posters, and his friend gave him this poster in 1983. He does not have a certificate of authenticity, but we are certain the signature is authentic.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair. The poster had creases, tears, and stains in the bottom corners and a lesser amount of wear around the edges . Someone had it linenbacked, and it likely displayed well when it was first linenbacked. Unfortunately, it was then framed and displayed, and the poster has faded significantly. It could still be displayed and enjoyed as it is, but please do not bid on it unless you can accept this very considerable defect.
