An Original Vintage Theatrical Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 21 3/8" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More)

Folies Bergere de Paris (also released as "Folies Bergere" and "The Man From Folies Bergere"), the 1935 Roy Del Ruth France romantic stage show musical ("50 Million Tourists Can't Be Wrong!"; based on the play "The Red Cat" by Hans Adler & Rudolph Lothar; produced by Darryl F. Zanuck) starring Maurice Chevalier, Ann Sothern, Merle Oberon, Eric Blore, and Ferdinand Munier. Note that this movie was made in simultaneous English and French versions. The English version starred the above actors while the French version starred Maurice Chevalier, Natalie Paley, Sim Viva, Fernand Ledoux, Ferdinand Gottschalk and was released as "L'homme des Folies Bergere". They are exactly the same movies, except for the language difference and the different cast (this is very similar to the 1931 U.S. and Mexican versions of "Dracula"), except in this case, the same director, Roy Del Ruth, directed both versions.

Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster. We have never auctioned one in all our years of auctioning (and we have only auctioned some small items such as heralds, stills and glass slides, but no other posters for this movie whatsoever)! Note also that years ago, some collector had this poster mounted onto foamcore. While most collectors do not like this, I have seen many posters that have been mounted on foamcore for years, and it never has any ill effects on the poster, so I am not sure why there is a bias against it (except of course that it can't be rolled, and must be sent in a flat package). Note also that this poster can't be folded or rolled and must be sent in a large flat package that measures approximately 24" x 30". Please bear this added expense in mind before bidding on this poster.

Note that this item needs to be shipped in an oversized flat package. Most of these items absolutely can only be sent in flat packages, and could not possibly be rolled into a tube. Some of them might SEEM like they could be rolled in a tube, like a half-sheet, but they can't. The reason these items are in this auction is specifically because they CAN'T be rolled (because rolling any of them would damage them, even if they somehow can be rolled). So please bear in mind that this item must be sent in a LARGE flat package (the size of the package will depend on the size of the item when ready for shipping), and bear this added expense in mind before placing a bid on it. IN THE CASE OF EXTREMELY LARGE FLAT ITEMS, THE SHIPPING COST WILL BE VERY HIGH, SO PLEASE DO NOT BID WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT THAT ADDED SHIPPING AMOUNT, AND INCLUDE THAT AMOUNT IN WHAT YOU BID (so if you would pay $150, but the shipping is likely $100, then only bid $50). And those who live outside the U.S. and who do not have a U.S. address to ship to SHOULD NOT BID AT ALL ON EXTREMELY LARGE FLAT ITEMS, BECAUSE THEY COST HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO SEND OUTSIDE THE U.S.

Condition: fair to good. At some point, the poster was mounted onto foamcore. Please do not bid unless you can accept this. Also, someone trimmed off approximately 5/8" from the bottom blank border (only blank white paper was affected). The poster also had five unevenly spaced partial vertical folds with tears in the middle left and middle right, which run through the images of all three women. It also has a few water stains scattered around the edges and some other defects. Obviously this extremely rare poster can be "rescued" by a talented restorer, but bear all of the above in mind before bidding.
