The Square Deal Man, the 1917 William S. Hart silent gambling cowboy western ("The regeneration of a square-jawed westerner who staked his all on the love of a girl and won."; like most of Hart's movies, this one had a detailed complicated plot that covered many years; Hart is an honest professional gambler/poker player named Jack O'Diamonds, and he has a partner "Two Spot"; the local minister, Preaching Dan, convinces him to give up gambling, but he wants to play one last game, and he gets in a really big one, where, on the final hand, he wins a Colonel's home and ranch; the Colonel accuses him of cheating, and the lights go out, and the Colonel is dead; Hart finds the Colonel's daughter and invites her to the ranch, and she thinks he is a servant, but when she finds out that people think he killed her father, she orders him away; he finds out that the ranch foreman was the one who actually killed the Colonel, and he offers to bet ownership of the ranch with the daughter on a coin flip, but only if she agrees to marry him, which she does) starring William S. Hart, Mary McIvor, Joseph J. Dowling, Mary Jane Irving, and J., Frank Burke
