An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Style A One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

The Bottom of the World, the 1930 South Pole expedition documentary ("Sea Elephants in desperate love battle!"; "An all-talking picture"; "Humor Drama Thrills"; "The most thrilling action ever photographed") featuring Dr. Robert Cushman Murphy. Note that this is a very interesting movie! It was distributed by "Talking Picture Epics", which was a company that was apparently only in business from around 1930 to 1931 or so, and during that time, they distributed really odd sounding documentaries to exotic locations! In addition to this movie, they also distributed "Monsters of the Deep", "Across the World with Mr. and Mrs. Johnson", and others, but we strongly suspect that these were not actual movies, but were rather re-titlings of other movies, or possibly compilations from earlier movies (for example, "The Bottom of the World" sounds suspiciously like "With Byrd at the South Pole", and "Across the World with Mr. and Mrs. Johnson" sounds like it would have been a compilation of Osa and Martin Johnson's earlier jungle documentaries). It is quite possible that the only thing that made these "talking pictures" was that a narration was added. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had minor wear on the foldlines, but many pinholes, scuffs, and smudges scattered throughout, with pinholes, tears, and smudges around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
