An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French "Affiche" Opera Stage Play Poster (23x32; measures 24 1/2" x 30 3/4") (Learn More)

Le Fetiche, the 1890 French opera musical stage play production (of Victor Roger's opera) that was held at the Theatre des Menus-Plaisiers in Paris, France starring Paul Ferrier and Charles Clairville. This poster features great art of some of the characters featured in the opera. Note that the title literally translates to "The Fetish", which certainly makes it sound like the opera had a provocative subject, but we could not find out much information about it. If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was folded once in each direction and there was separation and some tears on the horizontal fold. There was a 7" tear near the center of the top border. There were many tears and some paper loss in the left and right blank borders, and it looks like the bottom of the blank border may have been trimmed slightly. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking (especially considering its great age!). The restorer linenbacked the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above, but they are really not very distracting.
