An Unfolded Advertising Poster (measures 21 3/4" x 44" [55 x 112 cm]) (Learn More) Chesterfield Cigarettes is an American brand of cigarettes from 1896 to the present. The brand was named after Chesterfield county in Virginia and was one of the most recognized brands of the early 20th century. In the 1930s through the 1950s, Chesterfield sponsored popular radio programs and their advertisements often featured famous stars of the day, such as Humphrey Bogart, Lucille Ball, Rita Hayworth, Ronald Reagan and more If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we auctioned this poster once before, 7 years ago. Now the person who purchased it has re-consigned it to us, so it is still the only example of this poster we have ever auctioned! Note that this poster is attached to a piece of foamcore. We are not sure how the poster looked before that, but we think it was on a window card type backing (we think it was created that way), and that the entire poster (with the backing) was glued to the foamcore. If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that this item needs to be shipped in an oversized flat package. Most of these items absolutely can only be sent in flat packages, and could not possibly be rolled into a tube. Some of them might SEEM like they could be rolled in a tube, like a half-sheet, but they can't. The reason these items are in this auction is specifically because they CAN'T be rolled (because rolling any of them would damage them, even if they somehow can be rolled). So please bear in mind that this item must be sent in a LARGE flat package (the size of the package will depend on the size of the item when ready for shipping), and bear this added expense in mind before placing a bid on it. Condition: fair. We think the poster was originally on a window card type backing (we think it was created that way), and that the entire poster (with the backing) was glued to the foamcore. The poster is very rippled throughout, and we don't know if that is how it was prior to being glued, or if the gluing caused that to happen. There were some stains, tears, pinholes, and areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster and some scuffs and small stains scattered in the image (see our super-sized photo). In spite of its many defects, the poster actually displays fairly well (but when you get close to it, you can clearly see the many defects). It would be great to have the poster removed from its backing and properly restored, but that might be quite expensive, so please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept its defects described above or are willing to pay to have them properly restored!
