An Original Vintage Theatrical Mini Movie Window Card (WC; measures 8" x 14" [20 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

The Buccaneer, the 1938 Cecil B. DeMille seafaring Navy Naval sailor military biographical pirate romantic adventure melodrama ("Based on an adaptation by Jeanie Macpherson of 'Lafitte the Pirate' by Lyle Saxon"; a highly fictionalized biography of the famous 18th century pirate Jean Lafitte, who operated for many years off of New Orleans, but because he did not attack any American ships, he was somewhat tolerated by the American government) starring Fredric March (as Jean Lafitte), Franciska Gaal, Akim Tamiroff, Margot Grahame, Walter Brennan, Ian Keith, Anthony Quinn, Douglass Dumbrille, Beulah Bondi, Robert Barrat, and Evelyn Keyes (making her debut in a tiny role). Note that all of the U.S. posters for this movie that have art have really distinctive art. All of it is by an artist named "Dan Sayre Groesbeck". But several of the posters are unsigned, and others are signed with only parts of his name, and in different ways (perhaps the artist was just being "playful"). Groesbeck worked for DeMille creating his concept art and some of his poster art from the early 1920s until he passed away in 1950!

Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this mini window card!

Note that this is one of a wonderful collection of 36 ultra rare mini window cards we were consigned, which we are currently auctioning in 36 separate auctions! If you don't know already, mini window cards (which were made by the studios to serve as "mini posters" that could be displayed in small areas where larger posters could not) are similar in size to lobby cards, except that they measure 8" x 14" rather than 11" x 14", and they have a vertical orientation, with a blank top where theaters could put their play dates like with 14x22 window cards. But they are many, many times more rare than title lobby cards, or even regular window cards! Likely, this is because most theaters did not order these, but there could be another reason. We are not overstating this massive rarity difference! For example, we have auctioned around 20,000 14x22 window cards, and around 35,000 title lobby cards, but fewer than FIVE HUNDRED of these mini window cards! Every other hobby puts a massive premium on extreme rarity, and it seems that it will be just a matter of time before our hobby does the same with mini window cards! Perhaps it is their extreme rarity that causes many collectors to be unaware of them, but that is sure to change as well! This is a rare opportunity to purchase any of 36 mini window cards at one time!

Condition: good to very good. The card has a small tear near the middle of the left border and in the bottom left corner. It has tiny surface paper loss in the lower left extending into March's hand. It has a faint scuff mark in March's cheek by his nose.
