An Original Vintage Linenbacked Stage Play Poster (measures 21 1/4" x 29" [54 x 74 cm]) (Learn More) Have You Seen Smith?, the 1898 Broadway stage play production ("They can't lose him"; written by Scott Marble). We know that this played on Broadway, opening on October 3, 1898, but we could find no further information about it (although the poster is very interesting, and certainly makes us want to know more, because it shows pretty ladies, police, and Teddy Roosevelt all chasing after J. Jay Smith, who is about to fall into a pool of water, and there is a poster for "The Hustler Whiskey" in the background by a Pennsylvania Railroad station, which can't be the famous "Penn Station" in New York City, because that wasn't built until 1910, and it could be the station in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, which opened in 1887). If anyone knows more about this stage play, please e-mail us and we will post it here. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It had many tears and some small paper loss around the edges, with several tears that extended into the right of the image, and two areas of paper loss within the image. There was also a lot of paper tape on the back of the poster. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. However, a talented restorer took great care in removing all the paper tape from the back, and in restoring the tears and small areas of paper loss, and the poster now displays really well!
