A 1971 Re-Release Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

Amblin', the 1968 Steven Spielberg romantic hitchhiking travel adventure short ("He and she were thumb-trippin'."; "They had the makin's... and the tail-end of summer"; about a man and woman who are hitchhiking and who meet and become friends, and the movie has no dialog) starring Pamela McMyler, and Richard Levin. Note that the posters for this movie have "Denis C. Hoffman's Amblin'" printed in the lower right, and Hoffman was the producers of this short.

Note that this was Steven Spielberg's very first movie, and he wrote it in addition to directing it. It briefly played at the Loews Crest Theater in Los Angeles in December 1968, where it was on a double bill with Skidoo, and we don't know if any posters were created for that initial showing (either individual or as a double bill). It was the winner of the Silver Phoenix Best Short Subject Award at the Atlanta Film Festival in 1969, and again, we don't know what posters, if any, were used to advertise that film festival showing. We have auctioned a single black and white one-sheet that predates the 1971 NSS re-release one-sheet, and feel certain that poster is from exactly 1970, because the R rating on the poster says "under 17 requires accompanying Parent or Adult Guardian", and in 1968 and 1969, the R rating age was 16, and it was raised in 1970, and therefore we feel that poster was specifically created in 1970, because there was a color one-sheet created in 1971, when the movie was re-released and distributed through NSS. Of course, Spielberg had great affection for this, his first movie, and he named his production company "Amblin" after this movie!

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that we don't know if there was ever a 1968 poster for this movie (we have never seen or heard of it), but we do know that posters for this 1971 re-release are also extremely rare. We have only auctioned four examples of this one-sheet (and the last time was in 2012!)

Note that all but 28 of the folded one-sheets in this Part I of eMoviePoster.com's December Major Auction were consigned to us by legendary French dealer/collector Dominique Besson.

Dominique Besson started collecting movie posters in 1981, and became a dealer in French and European posters in 1994, and has remained as a top dealer ever since!

But in addition, 30 years ago, Dominique began collecting U.S. one-sheets, first those with Saul Bass art, and then adding Alfred Hitchcock posters, then Humphrey Bogart, and he finally ended up collecting in an amazing total of 47 different categories, purchasing the posters from all over the world!

Now the time has come to sell this wonderful collection, and Dominique has chosen eMoviePoster.com to do so, through our auctions!

As noted above, all but 28 of the folded one-sheets in this Part I come from this more remarkable collection (the 28 that do not were consigned to us by other collectors, and are clearly marked).

This is not all of the Dominique Besson collection we are auctioning. In addition, there are approximately 200 more folded one-sheets that will be in Part IV of this special auction (ones from the 1970s to present), and there are approximately 100 unfolded one-sheets that will be in Part III (including many great ones).

This is a very rare opportunity to purchase folded one-sheets (all of which have had no professional restoration) from one of the greatest one-sheet collections assembled!

Note that this one-sheet is from the category that Dominique Besson collected on that he labeled "Steven Spielberg".

Condition: good to very good. The poster was folded somewhat oddly at one time, resulting in several light creases scattered along parts of the vertical foldline. There is writing on the back that slightly bleeds through to the front at upper right near the "RT" in "SHORT" (it is not very noticeable or distracting). There is tiny paper loss in each crossfold and there is tiny paper loss in the left edge of the lower horizontal fold blank border. It is otherwise in pretty good condition and if after a simple linenbacking the poster will look great!
