An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

The Mummy, the classic 1932 Karl Freund Universal Ancient Egypt romantic monster horror thriller ("It comes to life!"; "The most amazing make-up ever achieved"; "Story by Nina Wilcox Putnam and Richard Schayer") starring Boris Karloff ("The Uncanny"; in the title role as Imhotep the Mummy), Zita Johann, David Manners, Edward Van Sloan, Arthur Byron, Bramwell Fletcher, and Noble Johnson (as The Nubian)

Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned four 1932 first release lobby cards from this classic horror movie, and the last one was a title card that sold for $106,500, and we have NEVER before auctioned THIS great first release scene card!

Note that this still has four stamps on the back, each of which says "ROBERT SCHERL P.O. BOX 2712 HOLLYWOOD, CALIF. 90028". Robert Scherl came to Hollywood in the 1960s from Ohio, and he convinced his longtime friend Ron Borst to come to Hollywood and sell memorabilia with him, and Ron Borst is now one of the most legendary collectors of horror material ever (Bob Scherl passed away many years ago, but he was a major figure in early movie memorabilia collecting). I don't know if people who collect lobby cards care about "pedigree", but if so, this lobby card has a wonderful one! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has.

Condition: very good. The lobby card has a pinhole in three corners and a tack hole in the top left corner. It has a faint brown stain near the center of the top border and some faint staining in the upper right blank border, with a tiny tear in the middle of the right border. It has a few faint scuffs within the image. The card must have been framed at one time, because there are some areas of surface paper loss on the back of the borders, where it must have been attached to a mat with tape along the edge, but the card was thick enough that it has no effect on the front. Since the defects are in the blank borders, we would think that most collectors would be happy to display this rare and desirable lobby card exactly as it is, or certainly, restoration could be performed, with or without backing the card.
