An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (measures 11" x 14") (Learn More)

Old San Francisco, the 1927 Alan Crosland silent California Chinese American race relations romantic melodrama ("A Romance of the days when 'Frisco was the Paris of America!"; based on the story by Darryl Francis Zanuck, later a legendary producer; set in the time when California was owned by Spain, and it tells of a formerly wealthy land owner who needs money, and people want to either buy him out or seize his land; Warner Oland plays a white man living in Chinatown who runs the illegal activities there, and the Chinese fear him because they believe him to be a white man, but he is actually a "half-breed", and when the pretty daughter of the impoverished land owner threatens to reveal his secret, he kidnaps her, intending to sell her into white slavery; at the climax of the movie, the San Francisco Earthquake destroys Oland, and the hero and heroine are reunited) starring Dolores Costello, Warner Oland, John Miljan, William Demarest, Josef Swickard, Charles Emmett Mack, Josef Swickard, and Anna May Wong. Note that years later, Darryl F. Zanuck would become one of the foremost proponents of racial tolerance in Hollywood, with movies like "Gentleman's Agreement" and "Pinky", and it is hard to believe that wrote this extremely racist movie!
