An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More)

Cool Hand Luke, the classic 1967 Stuart Rosenberg prison escape crime thriller ("The man... and the motion picture that simply do not conform."; "What we have here is a failure to communicate."; "It looks like Luke is communicating real good- with women... with men... like with just about everybody!"; "'Hell - that Luke is a real world-shaker!'"; about a hard headed inmate) starring Paul Newman ("Paul Newman just bugs the establishment as Cool Hand Luke"; nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; in the title role "as Cool Hand Luke", Lucas Jackson), George Kennedy (winner of the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; as Dragline), J.D. Cannon (as Society Red), Jo Van Fleet (as Arletta, Luke's mother), Robert Drivas (as Loudmouth Steve), Lou Antonio (as Koko), Strother Martin (as "Captain", the warden of the prison), Dennis Hopper (as Babalugats), Clifton James (as Carr), Wayne Rogers (as Gambler), Harry Dean Stanton (as Tramp), Morgan Woodward (as Boss Godfrey, "the man with no eyes", who has no dialogue at all, but who plays a very significant role), Joy Harmon (as "Lucille", the sexy girl washing the car), Cyril 'Chips' Robinson (as the black African American boy who helps Paul Newman escape), Jan Watson, and Susanne Benton (Watson and Benton only appear in the photo that Luke sends to the inmates of the prison to cheer them up!)

Artist: James Bama
Important Added Info: Note that this is a special poster (at least to Bruce Hershenson!). When his second son was born, he was named "Luke", not after "Luke Skywalker", as many of his friends have supposed, and certainly not after the Biblical Luke, but rather after the title character of this great Paul Newman movie, which is one of Bruce's favorite movies! After his birth, Bruce purchased this poster, and it hung framed in Luke's bedroom for the past 11 years. Now Luke is 11, and needs a drum set for his "garage band", and he is hoping this poster will sell for enough to cover the cost of a decent drum set. Let's see how well he does!

Condition: very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and tiny surface paper loss across the top two foldlines and in the vertical foldline between them. The poster was linenbacked and then trimmed to the exact edge of the linen and then placed in a frame, and there are some slight smudges down the left and right extreme outer edge of the left and right blank borders. The person who restored the poster used a sort of neutral yellow color for the very fine foldline restoration (or perhaps used a color that matched better originally, but has changed color over the years). When you look closely at the poster, you see this fine line on the above foldlines, but from any distance away, it is not very noticeable at all. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. I would think most collectors could display it just as it is, or certainly any talented restorer could do slight touch up to the above foldlines, and make the poster look that much better. Note that, while it was in the frame, the poster became slightly rippled in two areas in the left and right of the top border. I would think that will come out on its own over time, but if not, any restorer could "re-flatten" those areas without re-backing the poster.
