Stuart Blackton silent Dutch East Indies romantic melodrama ("Story by James Francis Dwyer"; a wild story of a little girl and her mother who are shipwrecked on a tiny island with a lighthouse; the mother dies, after telling her rescuers that her daughter is heir to a huge fortune; so they raise the little girl, planning on marrying her, after she grows up, to the "idiot son" of one of them, so that they can steal her fortune, but an American sailor who visits the lighthouse discovers the now-grown girl is being held in captivity, and after two murders and a massive fire, he rescues her and takes her back to civilization) starring Dolores Costello, John Harron, Otto Matieson (billed as "Otto Mattiesen"), Sheldon Lewis, Tyrone Power Sr. (billed as "Tyrone Power"), and Julia Swayne Gordon. Note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. Note that you likely have never heard of male lead John Harron! He was one of ten children from an Irish family, and his older brother Robert was a silent star. But Robert died mysteriously in 1920, and John kind of "inherited" his career while still a teenager! But he didn't have the success of his older brother, although he made a number of movies in the 1920s. But the coming of sound meant his career was mostly over, although he continued in small roles. In 1939, he developed spinal meningitis, and died, and he was just 36, leaving a wife and young daughter. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that first release 1926 movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We had previously auctioned one example of this insert (and had never sold ANY other movie paper item from this movie), and now the buyer of that poster has now reconsigned it to us, so this is still the only example of this poster we have ever auctioned! Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Also note that because this poster was paperbacked onto a thinner paper backing, it COULD be sent rolled, but we would MUCH prefer to send it in a large flat package (because we fear that rolling it, even into a wide tube, would have an excellent change of damaging it, so we will only send it in a tube if the buyer insists, and then they would be responsible for any damage), but otherwise, we will ship it in a large flat package, so bear that expense in mind before bidding on this poster. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had paper loss in the middle of the right border that was approximately 3" x 4", but fortunately, only blank white paper and solid background area were affected. There was a tear across the center of the poster entering Costello's hair, and some smaller tears in the center credits area. There were some pinholes, tears, and small paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
