An Original Vintage Theatrical English Movie Pressbook (English pb; measures 10 1/2" x 16 1/2" [27 x 42 cm]; 15 pages) (Learn More)

The Tales of Hoffmann, the 1951 Michael Powell & Emeric Pressburger English dance ballet opera romantic fantasy adventure musical (based on the opera by Jacques Offenbach, which in turn is based on the short stories by E.T.A. Hoffmann) starring Moira Shearer, Robert Helpmann, Leonide Massine, Robert Rounseville (in the title role as Hoffmann), Ludmilla Tcherina (billed as "Presenting Ludmilla Tcherina"), and Sir Thomas Beecham and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Note that this movie includes scenes of a fantasy island, and it was too costly to create such a set, so those scenes were done with the judicious use of matte paintings of the island!

Important Added Info: Note that this is a "country of origin" item for this English movie, which we have never auctioned before! Also note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this English pressbook, and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)!

Condition: poor to fair, WITH CUTS. There are five ads cut from interior pages. The covers are separated from the pressbook and from each other. There is water staining at the top of all pages, as well as many other defects. Please do not bid on this pressbook unless you can accept its significant defects described above.
