An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More)

Beau Geste, the 1926 Herbert Brenon silent French Foreign Legion military family relationship action adventure war thriller ("From the novel by Percival C. Wren"; about an Englishman who leaves England in disgrace and joins the French Foreign Legion, where his two brothers are serving, and they must deal with a sadistic sergeant and murderous Arabs) starring Ronald Colman (in the title role as Michael 'Beau' Geste; "By arrangement with Samuel Goldwyn"), Alice Joyce, Neil Hamilton (as Digby Geste), Noah Beery Sr. (as Sgt. Lejaune), Mary Brian, William Powell (as the Arab, Boldini!), Norman Trevor, Ralph Forbes (as John Geste), and Victor McLaglen. Note that this movie was remade in 1939, with Gary Cooper, Ray Milland, and Robert Preston as the three brothers, and Brian Donlevy as the sadistic sergeant.

Important Added Info: Note that first release 1926 movie paper from this first silent version of this classic movie is incredibly rare. We have never sold a movie poster larger than a window card from this movie until we received this insert! Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Also note that because this poster was paperbacked onto a thinner paper backing, it COULD be sent rolled, but we would MUCH prefer to send it in a large flat package (because we fear that rolling it, even into a wide tube, would have an excellent change of damaging it, so we will only send it in a tube if the buyer insists, and then they would be responsible for any damage), but otherwise, we will ship it in a large flat package, so bear that expense in mind before bidding on this poster.

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the top 3" of the poster was missing. It had tiny paper loss in the bottom of the "G" of "GESTE" and by the first "E" next to it. It had some pinholes around the edges and a few scattered in the image, including one in the man at center's cheek, with some faint smudges and stains scattered in the image. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was well backed, and the top 3" were expertly recreated. Obviously, one would prefer to find a better example of this poster, but since this is the only example of it we have ever seen, one might wait a VERY long time before finding any other example of it!
