Mankiewicz Rome Italy historical epic ("MGM's Acclaimed Production of William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar"; "Enjoy the dramatic highlights from 'Julius Caesar' in the MGM records album"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; based on the famous play by William Shakespeare) starring Marlon Brando (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; "as Mark Antony"), James Mason ("as Brutus"), John Gielgud ("as Cassius"), Louis Calhern (in the title role "as Julius Caesar"), Edmond O'Brien ("as Casca"), Greer Garson ("as Calpurnia"), and Deborah Kerr ("as Portia") NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is an "international" style lobby card (meaning it was printed in the U.S. for use in non-U.S. countries). Somewhere in the early 1960s, MGM apparently made a huge "trade" deal with European movie distributors. From the early 1960s to the late 1960s, MGM released 100 or more non-U.S. movies in the U.S. under the MGM logo (some dating back to the 1950s), and in return, they apparently gave 100 or more MGM movies (from the 1950s and early 1960s) to those European distributors to release in Europe. All of the posters from both sets of releases have a very similar type of somewhat garish, very colorful artwork, and most have an MGM logo that is different from that on other MGM movies of the same time period. None of these posters or lobby cards (except for the very first few of them) have any dates on them. This particular cards are from one of the movies that MGM sent for European release (and this is one of the movies that IS an MGM movie). If anyone knows more about these MGM releases, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. We are doing something in this set of auctions we rarely do! A couple of years ago, we were approached by a very long time collector, and he asked us if he could give us an entire auction of single lobby cards by himself. We agreed, and held that auction in 2017, and later that same year, a different collector sent us a different group of 999 lobby cards and we repeated the process. Now we have a third such "single owner" collection. This one was originally assembled in Australia, which is why some of the cards have either Australian paper snipes attached or Australian ratings stamps (but many do not have them). This collection originally contained 1,100 cards, and we auctioned 100 of them in our March Major Auction, and now we are auctioning the remaining 999 in THIS set of auctions, and after this auction, there will be no more cards to be offered. As will immediately be evident when you look at the cards, many of them are from titles where you almost never see any lobby cards, so this is a rare opportunity to acquire many cards that almost never are offered for sale or at auction!
