The Enemy, the 1927 Fred Niblo silent World War I (WWI) anti-war pacifist family relationship romantic melodrama ("Based on the play by Channing Pollock"; described as "a war picture without a battle scene"; about a young man who marries the daughter of a pacifist college professor; he is drafted and sent to Europe, and his wife's father is fired for preaching pacifism while the U.S. was at war, and he and his family go through very hard times, and don't even know if the daughter's husband is still alive) starring Lillian Gish, Ralph Forbes, Ralph Emerson, Karl Dane, and Polly Moran

Artist: Rohman

Condition: good to very good. This poster was linenbacked, and it had fairly significant defects which were somewhat repaired during the linenbacking process (we describe both the defects as well as the quality of the restoration below). You should also look at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!).

there were many small tears in the right end of the top foldline (fortunately in the solid black area); there were tears and small areas of paper loss along most foldlines and along the edges of the poster. The poster was well linenbacked. You can see signs of the repair of the tears when you look closely at the poster, but from any distance away, they are not very noticeable and not at all distracting.
