Date Sold 3/1/2015Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Shadows Over Chinatown, the 1946 Terry O. Morse insurance fraud Asian detective mystery crime thriller ("Suggested by Earl Der Biggers character") starring Sidney Toler (as Charlie Chan), Mantan Moreland, Victor Sen Yung (as Jimmy Chan, "#2 Son"), Tanis Chandler (a French actress who appeared in some Hollywood movies of the 1940s, but she returned to France and became the French dubbed voice for Hollywood actresses when those movies were shown in France!), Paul Bryar, Bruce Kellogg, Al Bridge, and John Gallaudet. Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! The poster had unfortunate paper loss in the top center, including much of Toler's left eye, nose, forehead, and part of his mouth. The rest of the poster had small tears and tiny paper loss on the crossfolds, and some tears and paper loss around the edges. Some restorer re-drew the missing areas on the left side of Toler's face, but it is still quite noticeable. Please read our description above and look at our super-sized image before placing a bid on this poster. Learn More about condition grades
